I have been involved in childbirth (apart from my family) for about 14 years, through acting as a volunteer on committees, doing research etc.I am still involved in these activities.Have been a member of Doula UK since its inception, and qualified as a Doula about 5 years ago. Before my involvement with childbirth, I obtained a degree in Sociology, and worked in Personnel and Training.After I had my family, I did some teaching in 6th form colleges and colleges of further education. I have 4 of my own children, born in 1977, 1980, 1986 and 990, whose births varied from home birth to Caesarean.

I am a Birth Doula.My philosophy is based on my experiences of childbirth; that is, I believe that the most important thing for a pregnant and labouring woman is to be treated with kindness and respect.This means really listening to the woman and taking on board her wishes, reassuring her all the way, so that her confidence in herself will grow, so that whatever type of birth she will have in the end, she will have a positive experience and memory of it.I became a Doula precisely because I had experience of how the different types of treatment can make a huge difference to the woman's perception of her labour, which will stay with her for years, either clouding or enhancing her life.
