I am a mother to three grown up children, the first two born in hospital and the third at home. I became a doula in 1999, having trained with Michel Odent, whom I found inspirational in his belief in women’s bodies and their ability to birth their babies naturally if left undisturbed.
I have subsequently worked all over the London/Bucks/Herts area attending births and have been as far afield as Kingston in the South and Milton Keynes in the North, and at the Portland hospital in London.
During this time I have supported over 50 couples during their transition to motherhood, some of whom I have had the privilege to be at the births of their second babies. I have also supported many couples postnatally in their homes, and this has included one couple who were parents to a surrogate baby and three sets of twins.
As well as my doula skills, I am a Breastfeeding counsellor, baby massage teacher and a hypnobirthing teacher, I have also attended courses with Ina May Gaskin and Sheila Kitzinger, two truly wise and humble women.
My goal as a doula is to provide information and support so that couples can decide how they want their birth experience to be, and then to do the best of my ability to make sure they achieve what they have planned.
